Meet DefCello!
John is a dynamic fusion of musician, composer, and computer programmer living in the heart of Southwest Virginia.
If you’ve been delighted by the rich, emotive tones of a cellist or cello section around Blacksburg or Roanoke, there’s a very good chance you were hearing John’s cello in the mix! He is a staple at local productions—spanning from intimate church services and weddings to grand orchestral and musical theatre productions—with an ever-growing list of happy clients eager to have cello a part of their next event!
John’s life is a passion-filled duality of music and technology. By day, he crafts code as a software engineer, weaving logic and creativity to make technology a reality. By night, he pours his time and energy into being a musician, weaving modern and classical arts to make the music a reality. “DefCello” symbolizes the harmony of his two passions—“Def”, a nod to his love of Python programming, while “Cello” pays homage to his most popular performing instrument.
John’s musical compositions are a manifestation of his eclectic musical journey, drawing from a lifetime of diverse experiences and travels. From his childhood days, he was playing piano, absorbing movie and game soundtracks, and writing music with a Casio CTK-1000 and MIDI. As a student, he played trombone and piano in school bands, making his debut as a composer in high school jazz band with his piece “Heat of the Faiya”. As an adult, he has poured himself into the cello, exploring music and art from around the world, and finding ways to share his love for artistic expression with everyone around him.
Step into DefCello’s world, where the music and technology are fused together into an unforgettable journey of sound and creativity.
